4 Easy Steps and Goodbye Heavy Periods

Insert net into uterus

STEP 1

Your doctor slightly dilates your cervix, inserts a slender wand, and extends a triangular-shaped netted device into your uterus.

STEP 2

The netting expands, fitting to the size and shape of your uterus.

STEP 3

The NovaSure procedure uses radiofrequency to ablate the endometrium. During the procedure, precisely measured radiofrequency energy is delivered through the netting for about 90 seconds.

STEP 4

The netted device is pulled back into the wand, and both are removed from your uterus.

Reclaim Your Life

Having a NovaSure endometrial ablation procedure is one of the easiest ways that can reduce or eliminate heavy bleeding to dramatically improve your quality of life—and free you to do all the activities you love. See how Janelle got her life back.

When considering a procedure like NovaSure endometrial ablation, it is important for you to understand and consider all the other treatment options available to you.

First and foremost, you must be absolutely sure you do not want to have any children in the future. Your uterine lining is removed during an endometrial ablation procedure. This is the area in your body where the bleeding originates—and it’s essential for nurturing the growth of a fetus.

It is important to know that it is still possible to become pregnant after a NovaSure endometrial ablation procedure. Pregnancy after endometrial ablation is very dangerous for both the mother and the fetus so before you have the NovaSure procedure, be sure to talk with your doctor about contraception options.

What You Can Expect

Most women report little or no pain and are able to return to their regular activities within a day. However, call your doctor if you have abnormal discharge, increased pain, fever, or any other symptom you’re concerned about.

Important Safety Information

NovaSure endometrial ablation is for premenopausal women with heavy periods due to benign causes who are finished childbearing. During a NovaSure procedure, a trained gynecologist inserts the NovaSure device through your vagina and then treats the uterine lining—the endometrium. Because pregnancy following the NovaSure procedure is still possible and dangerous, it is important to talk to your doctor about birth control or permanent sterilization following the procedure. The NovaSure procedure is not for those who have or suspect uterine cancer; have an active genital, urinary or pelvic infection; or an IUD. As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks including but not limited to internal injury, infection, and complications related to anesthesia. Temporary side effects may include cramping, nausea, vomiting, discharge and spotting. This information is not medical advice. Please discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor to find out if the NovaSure procedure may be right for you.
